Advanced Material Research Group (AMRG)
The Advanced Materials Research Lab/Group (AMRL) has been active since the inception of the Computational Nanoscience and Technology Laboratory (CNTL) at ABV-IIITM, established in August 2008 through the Faculty Initiation Grant. The group focuses on theoretical computation of phase transitions, electronic, structural, elastic, optical, and transport properties of bulk and nanomaterials. It also engages in experimental synthesis and characterization of composite nanowires for various electronics applications.
The lab has access to a rich suite of computational tools like VASP, WIEN2K, SIESTA, Quantum ESPRESSO, QuantumATK, Gaussian09, SIMON, NANODCAL, RESCUE, and Materials Studio. With national and international collaborations, AMRG is rapidly advancing in materials modeling.
In alignment with CNTL's vision, AMRG focuses on applying cutting-edge theoretical and computational techniques to real-world challenges in IT materials and devices. The research spans from condensed matter and nanophysics to simulations of soft and biological matter.
Over its 18-year journey, CNTL has adopted a multiscale approach to materials research—from atomic to macroscopic levels—alongside development in algorithms, grid computing, and visualization. An additional focus includes nano-safety and material-related risk management for industries.
